Oregon boundary dispute - The Oregon boundary dispute arose as a result of rival British and American claims to the Oregon Country, a region of western North America, in the first half of the 19th century. Both Great Britain and the United States had territorial and commercial interests in the Oregon country, and so in 1818 the two nations agreed to share sovereignty in the sparsely populated region.
