Endocrine sytem - There are a number of organs in the body which are largely -- if not entirely -- devoted to the production and distribution of these chemical hormones throughout a body. These hormones act as sort of "messengers", carried by the bloodstream, to different cells in the bodies, which then interpret the messages and act on them.
Neuroendocrine cell - Neuroendocrine cells are a type of cells that have molecular substances that allow them to uptake and release neurotransmitters and neuropeptide hormones. These cells enable autocrine communication both with paracrine and endocrine cells throughout the body.
Oxyphil cell - Oxyphil cells are cells found in oncocytomas of the kidney, endocrine glands, and salivary glands.
Alpha cell - Alpha cells are endocrine cells in the islets of Langerhans of the pancreas. They are responsible for synthesizing and secreting the peptide hormone glucagon, which elevates the glucose levels in the blood.
