Quantrill's Raiders - Quantrill's Raiders were Confederate guerrillas who followed and fought under William Clark Quantrill, an Ohio schoolteacher who relocated to Kansas, and who transformed a motley group of Confederate sympathizing farmers and townsmen living behind Union lines into one of the Confederacy's most effective and electric partisan ranger units.
Battle of Saltville - The Battle of Saltville (1 October - 3 October, 1864), was fought near the town of Saltville, Virginia. The battle was fought by both regular and homeguard Confederate units against regular Union troops, particularly one of the few black cavalry units, over an important saltworks in the town.
Foot cavalry - Foot cavalry was an oxymoron coined to describe the rapid movements of infantry troops serving under Confederate General Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson during the American Civil War (1861–1865). The use of the words "foot" and "cavalry" to describe the same troops were seemingly in conflict with one another, as unlike normal cavalry units with horses, his men were infantry troops, usually on foot (although occasionally traveling by train).
